Types of Jeep soft tops

Jeep Soft Top - Just Jeeps

So you have taken the decision to install a soft top on your Jeep Wrangler. Of all the Jeep parts available, the soft top itself has a number of different options. Many of these have particular design features that may appeal to one Jeep owner, but not the next. Let’s take a look at some of the options available on the market at present.

The Bikini

The Bikini is extremely popular. This soft top is perfect for summer and features an open back section and a transparent covering for the roof of your Wrangler. Take note, the roof only protects the front two occupants of the vehicle and not those sitting in the rear. They, however, have the advantage of the wind in their hair and spectacular views. The Bikini is perfect for a trip to the beach on a sweltering day, keeping all the occupants of your Wrangler cool as you head on down the highway.

The Safari

If you are looking for a little more protection for all the passengers in your vehicle, then the Safari soft top is the way to go. Although it does not offer the panoramic views that the Bikini will, it ensures that the elements are kept outside your Wrangler. The Safari itself is a larger version of the Bikini where the passenger section at the rear also receives cover. Typically, it is constructed out of material that will not allow you to see up through the roof. It still offers a great view of the scenery, but with added protection from the elements.

The Unlimited

This soft top is specifically designed for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited four-door. It provides a black roof with a covering over the rear of the vehicle which ensures no one gets wet on a rainy day. Although this soft top option is relatively large, it is very easy to install. On hot summer days, you can have it off in a couple of minutes to take advantage of sunny weather.

Things to consider when choosing a soft top

We have highlighted three popular soft tops that you can choose from for your Wrangler. Bear in mind, these Jeep parts come in varying price ranges, so that may be your first consideration when deciding on which one to purchase. There are a number of other factors that could influence your decision.

  • Climate: Do you get plenty of sun where you live? If so, a Bikini might be your best option.
  • Passengers: How many passengers do you have in your Jeep on a regular basis? Do they need protection from the elements?
  • Wind: How much does the wind blow in the area in which you live. If it is particularly windy during summer, you may want more protection than that offered by the Bikini for example. Wind-driven sand can hurt when you are travelling over 30 mph.

These are just a few of the things you should consider when installing this Jeep part. Having said that, once you find the correct soft top, it can take your Wrangler to another dimension.
